If the words “portable Bluetooth speaker” make you think of tiny sound and weak bass, the Edifier ES60 Tabletop Wired & Portable Bluetooth Speaker is here to change your mind. At Sound X, the ES60 is one of our go-to recommendations for anyone who wants a speaker powerful enough to fill a living room, yet compact enough to carry to the garden, the beach, or a friend’s braai.
Here’s a full, plain-English breakdown of what makes the ES60 worth your money.
A Speaker That Looks as Premium as It Sounds
The ES60 immediately stands apart from typical budget speakers. It’s finished in a soft, faux-leather wrap with subtle gold metal detailing and a clean, structured grille — giving it a retro, high-end amplifier look rather than the plasticky feel you get from most Bluetooth speakers in this price range. It’s available in Black and Ivory, so it doubles as a stylish addition to a bookshelf, office desk, or kitchen counter — not just a gadget you hide away.
But this isn’t a case of style over substance. The ES60 is genuinely engineered for performance, and that’s where things get interesting.

Sound Quality: 34W of Genuine, Room-Filling Power
This is the headline feature, and for good reason. The ES60 is built around dual 0.75″ silk-dome tweeters, a long-throw oval mid-bass driver, and a passive bass radiator, all powered by a high-efficiency Class-D amplifier delivering a combined 34W (RMS) of output.
In simple terms: this isn’t a “background music” speaker. The dual tweeters (positioned front and rear) spread sound outward for a wider, more immersive listening field, while the oval mid-bass driver and radiator work together to produce deep, punchy bass without distortion — even at higher volumes. Whether you’re hosting a get-together, working through your day, or just relaxing at home, the ES60 is powerful enough to be the only speaker in the room.
You also get four EQ presets — Music, Movies, Gaming, and Outdoor — accessible through the free Edifier ConneX app, so you can quickly match the sound profile to whatever you’re doing.
Bluetooth 5.4: Reliable, Flexible Connectivity
The ES60 runs on Bluetooth 5.4, the latest and most stable Bluetooth standard available, which means faster pairing, a stronger signal, and fewer dropouts compared to older-generation speakers. Two features make a real difference in day-to-day use:
- Multi-point connection — pair two devices simultaneously (say, your phone and laptop) and switch between them without re-pairing.
- Stereo pairing — link two ES60 units together for true left-right stereo audio, instantly turning a single speaker into a full sound system for parties or movie nights.
For those who prefer a wired connection, the ES60 also features a USB-C port that supports direct audio streaming from your computer, in addition to charging — giving you the flexibility of both wireless and wired setups in one device.
Built to Handle Indoors and Out
The ES60 carries an IP66 rating, meaning it’s fully dustproof and can withstand powerful water jets from any direction. That makes it a reliable choice for the patio, garden, poolside, or a sudden downpour — without you needing to rush inside to protect it. It’s genuinely built to go wherever your day takes you.
Battery life is rated at up to 9 hours of continuous playback on a full charge, which comfortably covers a full day of use, whether that’s an all-day work session or an evening event. Charging is handled through USB-C, so there’s no need for a proprietary cable.
Ambient Lighting: A Small Detail With Big Atmosphere
At the base of the ES60 sits a soft ambient light, offering three light effects and two colour options. It’s a subtle touch rather than a flashy gimmick — casting a warm glow beneath the speaker that looks especially good in the evening, whether it’s sitting on a shelf, a dinner table, or beside you at an outdoor gathering. It’s fully customisable through the ConneX app, and can be switched off entirely if you’d rather preserve battery life.
Hands-Free Calling Built In
A high-sensitivity built-in microphone with intelligent noise cancellation means you can take calls without reaching for your phone. It’s ideal for quick, casual conversations at close range — a handy bonus feature on top of an already well-rounded speaker.
Who Is the Edifier ES60 For?
The ES60 is an easy fit if you:
- Want genuinely powerful, room-filling sound — not just “loud for its size”
- Value design as much as performance
- Need a speaker that can move confidently between indoor and outdoor use
- Want the flexibility of both Bluetooth and wired USB-C streaming
- Like the idea of expanding into full stereo sound with a second unit down the line
If you specifically need maximum portability in your pocket or bag, the smaller Edifier ES20 might suit you better. But if you want a speaker that can comfortably anchor a room or a gathering, the ES60 is built for exactly that.
